Laconic Mani (Mani)

Mani is a wild but beautiful and enchanting place, located at the southeastern tip of the Peloponnese. To define it geographically, one could draw an imaginary line on the map of the Peloponnese and divide it into Laconic and Messinian Mani. It is known for its olive groves with its age-old trees, its virgin olive oil and its delicious olives. The history of Mani is inextricably linked to its unique wild beauty with rocky steep coves, secluded beaches, pirate strongholds in the past. Its stone towers, “fortresses”, i.e. kind of castle houses with tower architecture, with discrete openings used for doors and windows and lines of defense of the owners against the outside enemies. The distance and the general geography of Mani, kept it slightly unknown to the visitor, however in recent years, Laconic Mani has become a permanent attraction for visitors seeking an indestructible natural environment, relaxation, tranquility and privacy during their holidays.

Traditional village Mezapos

One of the oldest fishing villages of Laconic Mani and a pirate stronghold in the old days, is Mezapos, a small fishing settlement, built in the bay of Tigani peninsula, south of Areopolis, in Mesa Mani. It is placed on a wild rocky spot by the sea between two torrents. The momentum of the wind, especially in the winter months, pushes the sea with force on the sandy and stony beach of Mezapos, thus creating small caves in the rocks that attract the interest for exploration and swimming in the turquoise waters, overlooking the castle in Tigani. The locals divide Mezapos into Pano and Kato, each with its own characteristic beach, both accessible on foot and by car from the village. The enchanting waters of Mezapos and the wild landscape of Mani are shockingly reflected in the geography of the area. Today the visitor enjoys the characteristic natural environment of Laconic Mani, with its many hidden secrets and its natural beauties as well as an incredible calm and privacy with unforgettable moments of relaxation and rest during his vacation. Access to Mezapos is easy, the road is paved with asphalt and is driven safely.
